Questions & Answers
What is Intuitive Painting? Intuitive Painting invites you to let your creativity lead the way as you move with color and brush in hand. In this practice, you rediscover the simple joy of expression and reconnect with your own natural, unfiltered creativity. What matters is the process itself, not the finished painting. If you have not yet watched the video on our homepage, we encourage you to do that. It gives you a feel for the process and shows real clips from our online classes.
Is painting online really as meaningful as painting in person? Yes. Many painters are surprised to discover that the online experience is just as deep and expansive as being in the studio. Once you settle into the process, the creative flow happens no matter where you are. And you get to save on travel time and expenses! :)
What classes and workshops can I take online? Most of our offerings are available for online participation. Each listing will say whether it is online only, online and in person, or in person only. Checking the description is the easiest way to make sure the class you want has an online option.
How do I register for online classes? You can register directly through our website. After you sign up, you will receive an email with your Zoom link before the class begins. If anything feels confusing, we are always happy to help.
Can I use markers or colored pencils instead of paint? For your first class or two, you can absolutely start with whatever you already have at home. Many new students begin this way. If you continue with our classes, you will want to get the paints we recommend. They give you the fullest experience of intuitive painting.
What supplies do I need for painting at home? You can find a full list of supplies in our Supply Checklist document found on this page.
How do I set up my space at home? We created a short home setup video that walks you through an easy way to arrange your space. You will see two simple options, and you can choose what fits your home best.
What kinds of paint do you recommend? For the best experience with intuitive painting, we recommend tempera or gouache paints. These paints are simple to work with and do not require any special art skills, which helps you stay connected to your creativity instead of focusing on technique. For specific brands, please refer to the Supply List document and the Home Set Up video.
What if I feel nervous, blocked, or unsure what to paint? Feeling blocked or unsure of what to paint next is a normal part of this process. Your teacher will help you connect with yourself and offer gentle guidance. There is no right or wrong way to paint here.
Will anyone see what I paint? Yes, but only within the circle of the class. We create a very safe and respectful environment. We do not comment on, analyze, or critique each other's paintings.
I have never painted before. Can I still join an online class? Yes. Many of our students come in with no artistic experience at all. You do not need skill, training, or any artistic background. Curiosity is enough. We also offer introductory classes that give you a gentle doorway into the process if you want a place to start.
I want to paint, but my life is really busy. How can I make this work? What we hear often is that taking even one class a week helps people feel less overwhelmed. Having a dedicated creative space gives you time to unwind, reset, and return to your life with more energy. To make scheduling easier, we offer a Flex Pass for weekly classes. This allows you to attend with more freedom and helps creativity fit into real life.
What if I sign up for a series and cannot make a class live? You can make up missed classes by joining another weekly class within that series. We are happy to help you find the right one.
